Ms. Exner holds two Florida teaching licenses in secondary mathematics and social studies, and a Bachelor of Arts in History. She studied classical piano and composition at Lawrence University’s music conservatory in Appleton, Wisconsin before changing her major to US and Modern European history. After college, Ms. Exner directed church music programs and built a private piano studio of students in preschool to late adulthood. In her spare time, she wrote and produced albums of her original music, and she performed with bands around Wisconsin at clubs, festivals and on a nationally known radio show broadcast on National Public Radio.
In 2013 Ms. Exner moved to South Florida, teaching middle and high school students. She participated in a seminar in summer 2015 through Florida State University, learning engaging ways to teach statistics in grades 6 to Algebra I. (Her favorite activity from the seminar: launching tiny marshmallows with mini-catapults, measuring the distance traveled and calculating measures of central tendency.) She has a special passion for teaching middle school math and is excited to be working at Franklin Academy.
